Design of an engineering product is made with the intention of ultimately manufacturing it economically. Modern manufacturing engineering places great emphasis on the completeness and clarity of information contained in the engineering documentation and on the maximum use of standard components in the design. Sufficient attention in the design stage, on details regarding attainable geometric, position and dimensional tolerances, the selection of proper materials and process of heat treatment and designing components with minimum machining involved, is often found to result in substantial reduction in the cost of production.
